I have a choice between the two to replace the seats in my Manta. Has anyone had experience with putting either of these into a manta? The WRX seats are 2004, the Miata are 2002 I think.

Replacement Seats

There's been a thread on using the Miata seats, along with measurements provided. Search on seats, or miata.

Bonus - upscale leather Miata seats came with speakers built into the headests.

The thread for fitting Mita seats is just below this post headed _ "Seats"

Excelsior, How did you come out with your seats? I have some seats out of a Mazda Miata that are destined to go in the "Red" Opel, adapters made courtsey of GtJims drawings, but. I've been hunting for some Recaros, but am at a loss to figure out what will crossover. Thanks, Jarrell

If you have a Manta, your options are much more open. The Miata seats are popular for the GT, but Manta's have a lot more room. I have a set of leather seats out of a '88 Acura Legend in my '74 Manta that I picked up from Gary at Carlisle a couple of years ago. They're super nice and comfortable (and the driver's side is 6-way power adjustable!).
I think Charles did a swap of some Toyota or Nissan (?) seats in a Manta that turned out nice as well. If your choices are either Miata or WRX seats, go with the ones that are most comfortable. If the WRX seats are similar in size to the Miata ones, either one can likely be made to fit with little difficulty.
Gene Smith (BQS4) has a nice method of using the original frames to mount other seats (especially Recaros) in a Manta/1900/Sportwagon. Or, you can fab up your own mounts and incorporate the original clamps that mount the seats to the floor.

Thanks for the info Todd, I'll start hunting around the junkyards and Ebay. I know there's a LOT more room in the Mantas. Gene, do you have some pictures and recomendations? Jarrell

Jarrell;
I have a set of the Recaros that fit the GT, you can find them in the 77-83 BMW 320i series. NOTAVETT has the instructions on his site to mount these Recaros simple and easy using the stock GT seat rails. As Todd mentioned, for the Manta/Ascona, I have found a way to use the stock seat frame to mount aftermarket seats without messing up the floorboards of your Manta/Ascona. Todd is right in that there is not a lot of room to work with in a GT, but, in the Manta/Ascona, you're almost at "the sky's the limit"
