Hi there from sunny? England. I have a cylinder head that is what I believe to be a 2.0 due to it having only one rib cast onto the front face but on the side next to the cam inspection cover where it usually has the engine capacity stamped, this one has XR2 stamped there instead. Can anyone shed any light on this please?

If it's an XR2E that's a fairly rare 2.0 litre head.

Hi,
The XR2 head is standard for 20N and 20S(carburettor)engines 53.8cc chamber volume GM part number 90122200 casting number R90090490.
XR2E is standard for 20E engines 49.8cc chamber, GM 90122201, casting R90209809.
The Kadett C GT/E '1000' cylinder head is XR2EH, 48.9cc chamber, GM 90122199 and R90090489 a special casting as described by Rally Bob.
Later cylinder heads for unleaded gasoline were P2(replaces XR2) and P2E(replacesXR2E).
This info is from a factory 'cylinder head chart' 90122558.
My Manta A uses a XR2 head and runs unleaded without any ill effects so far. I am told by 'well informed' fuel suppliers here that the MMT(manganese based)compound used to raise the octane of base stock gasoline also reduces valve seat recession to levels achieved with TEL.

Thank you for this information! It's difficult to source here because we never got the 2.0 litre CIH engines imported to the US.

Thank you all, the information is most appreciated. I will look harder to see if I have got a XR2E head or a normal XR2 head.
P.S my Manta is the yellow ASeries that appeared on the North American Opel group Facebook page

Hi!
A friend of mine cleaned his garage and actually gave me a XR2E head for free :) I had planned to have hardened seats installed to get rid of addatives, but now you are saying its not necessary? Great if true!
Another question, if I put it on my 1.9S block how would it affect the performance of the engine? Is there any differance in cam profile between the -70 1.9S and the -84 XR2E?
If I'm not mistaken the newer 12 bolt head still fits the older 10 bolt block?

The timing cover is different between 10 bolt design and 12 bolt design.

All the CIH 4cyl blocks will bolt to all CIH 4cyl heads AFAIK
