Not likely. 9mm bolts are like hens teeth. If you are trying to stud your exhaust/ intake manifold I would recommend just tapping the holes out to a SAE thread and use some split-lock type bolts. I will be doing this on my next engine.

I think Miskatonic was talking about the exhaust manifold flange to head pipe bolts, which are 8mm and pretty easy to find. I get those studs and the copper or brass nuts for them at places that sell parts for air-cooled VW's usually, though I have seen the 8mm brass nuts for sale at my local Autozone in the "Help" section as well.

That gasket kit actually didn't come with the exhaust flange gasket, the square one that came with it was the one that goes between the intake and exhaust manifolds, which almost no one ever replaces. The flange gasket you have to buy seperatly.

Yes, I was thinking intake/exhaust manifold studs ... they were fresh in my mind after spending too much time Sunday removing and reinstalling dual side drafts. You're right 9mm bolts/studs are practically non existent ... asking for them even at a fastener speciality place is always good for a laugh.

Intake/exhaust "socketed" bolts



You DO know that later CIH engines used 9mm "Allen" type (socketed) intake/exhaust bolts, right? Much easier to remove and reinstall, IMO.

Just wondering if the AD posted here is the same as the ones OGTS sells. The price is 22.00 on that site, yet OGTS has them for 3$ for a set? They are part #10011, and says "Bolts Exhaust Manifold to Head Pipe"

Any info on this? I've got to place another order with Opel GT Source anyway, and if they sell those studs, I would rather order from them. The head pipe IS the one that bolts to the stock exhaust manifold, correct?

Also.. does anyone know of any LOCAL place that would sell the studs and gasket? I really wanted to get my car goin in the next day or two.. but if I have to order offline.. it don't look like it would happen ..

These are stainless steel. Don't know if Gil's are SS or not.

 

Go to the "Help" brand section of any Napa, Autozone, etc, and look for "waterpump studs". They sell a set of four (so you'll need two sets to get six studs) that are the correct metric pitch and length. They cost $4 and even come with nuts and lockwashers, although you should probably get copper nuts instead.

I couldn't find any local place that had the header pipe gasket in stock.

 

Would I look for waterpump studs FOR an Opel GT? What is the size..length..thread pitch.. all that?

And I actually found the gasket. I did not know that it came with the head gasket set I purchased a while back!

Thanks guys! I'll head over to NAPA tomarrow and see what I come up with. What exactly is the point of a Copper nut for them? And what is a good length, or at least the Min. and Max. I can use?

They screw into the Exhaust Manifold, and then will just go through a hole in the head pipe correct? With the nuts tightened to head pipe?

I usually get my stuff from OGTS in a couple days from clear across the country. If you get your order in before 1pm PST, they will ship out the same day. They offer expedited service, too, in case you're in a pinch. I'm not sure whether that "holiday" next week will affect postal deliveries, though.
