Hood not fitting correctly..

Well if I think back to when I bought my car, the hood was never attached. Now that I am to the point to put it back on, I see the hinge does not line up correctly. It swings "open" just fine, but when I swing it down, like it was shutting, it hits the airline that goes from the master cyliner to the Carborator. The holes lined up just fine when installing, and the only difference I see from other GT's is that my hinge is like.. 1 1/2 inches farther forward then it should be. I know that IS my problem, but how to fix it? I don't see no other places to re-drill the holes, and its hitting too much to just MOVE the hose.

Thanks in Advance

make sure the hoodhinge is not seized. theres only 2 small tabs that hold the hoodhing to the car its self, and bend easy enough to where you may not think anything of it. speaking from a past experience with my car unfortunately. swing the hood back and forth slowly while looking at the mounting points up inside the nose of the car, you'll be able to see if its free or if its bending.

I kind of seems that there are repairs done, but I went and looked at Junker car, where the hood closes fine, and they seem to be in the same place. The 2 metal pieces that have the bolts in them are not twisted. Everything thing looks to be fine, and it all lines up correctly with the holes, its just it too far forward. The only thing I could think of as of right now is to somehow place it farther back. Welding is out of the picture because I got new paint..don't want to take the chance of flaking the paint from heat, or causing it to Discolor.

jon have you tried to take the hose off the servo and then close the hood to see if the shut lines are right as that will tell you if you have the hinge in the right place
i must say that from the pic the hood looks right just position of the elbow in the servo looks wrong ,needs to point down to clear the hinge ,you may need a longer hose or to reroute it to get the lenth

You are correct, sir.

Baz is right, I think. I'd be more inclined to think that the hose is wrong than having the hood bracket in the wrong place. Take the hose off and check the close point. If the hood is significantly out of position, there would be a sizable gap in the front or the rear end of hood would hit the windshield. That hose is the problem.

I just compared my hinge placement to yours and yours appear to be way too far forward. The clearance on the inside of the "C" part of the hinge clears my forward hood opening by 1/2 to 1/4 inch max. Yours appears to have much more than that by a couple of inches

Tried to switch the hose around, and when I try to turn it, it just comes off, so that is outta the picture. Tomarrow I am going to try to bolt the hinge on from the back instead of the front..which would give it an extra inch or 2.

Thanks for everyones responses. I have many many other questions, but will put them on a different post. And BTW, tomarrow is christmas for me. my 2000 dollars worth of parts will start to come from tomarrow, through the next few days, in 3-5 boxes :)

Support Rod Location For The Gt Hood

Sparky 73, as Texas Tom stated the distance at the angle of your hinges shown in the picture is to great and is not set to far foward but just the opposite. Check the folowing; the booster hose should point to 10 o'clock as shown in picture. The center line of the rod support (for the hood hinge) to the face of front fire wall is 11 1/4 to 11 3/8 inches. The mounting holes for the angle clips that hold the support rod is 10 1/2 inches from the face of the front fire wall. From the center line of the support rod to the center of the closest elongated hole for the hood mounting bolt is 5 5/8 inches. It may be possible the your hood support angles (that support the rod for the hinges) are mounted on the wrong side of the mount point(downward pointed sheetmetal reinforcement for upper nose section just before the hood opening) the rod should be to the front of the mount point. If you can see the rod support then it is on the wrong side. I can post a pic if you are still confused.
