Wrong brakes??

I thought I had a frozen caliper on my new Opel GT purchase. So, as such, today I pulled the wheel, and found the pads WERE infact stuck to the rotors....but the pistons in the caliper were completely retracted? I pulled the pads and cleaned them off a bit, re-installed them...and yet even with the pistons all the way retracted into the Caliper I dont have room to put it back over the rotor.

Is it possible there's another set of pads that someone improperly installed? Maybe a thicker set?

Both pistons can be squeezed back into the calipers until they're basically flush with the caliper body. IIRC new pads and new rotors are fairly tight BUT obviously there should be enough room to install them. Make sure the pistons are 'bottomed out'. The front pads are used for many applications and are usually 'in stock' and relatively inexpensive unless you go with some of the 'performance' type pads.

To add to what Harold has said, I have also found that dirt/brake dust build up in the channels/slots the pads slide into. So, every pad change, I use a small flat bladed screw driver and clean/scrape the slots clean, or as clean as I can get them, then install the new pads.
