Has anyone used the Bosch 3300 oil filter, and if so, what has your experience been? The 3300 is Bosch's recommended number for the Opel CIH 1.9L engine. It is very similar to other filters sold for our cars, with respect to height (2.93"), and diameter (2.68"). However there is one difference. All of the filters I have found so far have a 3/4-16 thread, while the Bosch 3300 uses an M20-1.5. M20 is somewhere between 3/4" and 13/16" and it seems intuitive that something ought not fit so precisely. At the same time, it seems intuitive that Opel would have originally built the engine using a metric thread. Or are we all just lucky that a 3/4-16 thread works "well enough"?
By the way, my search for filters has turned up two more, both sold by overseas Opel parts suppliers. The Mann W712 and the Mahle OC21 both meet the standard, are roughly 3" high and 3" in diameter with inside gasket diameter of 2.44" and outside diameter of 2.8" . Both can be had in the US (Advance Auto and Carquest carry the Mann name).
