GTE Spoiler Mold

I picked up a Manta GTE spoiler at Carlisle in unmolested condition (thanks Duane!). I'm not sure of its origin (Steinmetz? Lenk? Opel?). Before using it on a car, I'm curious as to whether anyone would be interested in making a mold and reproducing it? It's a two piece unit with center locking tabs. I'm told these units fit a Manta far better than other aftermarket units, but I don't know this for sure. These things are really hard to find, especially in this condition. If there is anyone here with the expertise to make such a mold I'm willing to ship it out as long as the original doesn't get destroyed in the process. I have no idea how many would need to be made to make it worth the effort, but I'd like to have another one made. Comments and suggestions would certainly be appreciated! I've thrown the idea around with Keith (Opelspyder) and Pete (Anastos Motors) - just looking to gather knowledge and see if there's enough interest to move forward.

Here are some pics of the unit I got from Duane. First pic shows both pieces, second is a more close up shot, and the last one is the back side.

PS...these are the ones that Timemachine nearly let get thrown out at Carlisle :lmao:

That's pretty cool! I think it's a great idea to make a mold to reproduce these. I don't have any immidiate plans to add a front spoiler but maybe sometime in the future I would. I hope there is enough support to make these available for Manta owners.

Me too! But what I REALLY hope is that someone here has the expertise to actually DO it for us and keep it within the site. There are a LOT of members here now, so fingers crossed.

Hmmmm . . .

I sold 2 of those last year and have one at the house. I think that OGTS made a one-piece copy of that spoiler some years ago.

The yellow Manta that Ging/Mr. Ging owns has it. It looks good. Don't know about the installation, it wasn't with the clips that the GT/E spoiler has. I believe it used sheet metal screws.

. . . uh, not to get too hung up on semantics here, but I thought the attachments under the front bumper were called "air dams" and that "spoilers" were the trunk lid attachments, no?

Opel GT Source not only had them, he has the mold. They had two in stock a few weeks ago, and now its one in stock last I checked. Since, I just ordered one of them myself and it came in last week. Its a nice one piece version in fiberglass of the GT/E spoiler.

If it's a genuine Opel Spoiler (in the UK they're refered to as spoilers, be it front or rear......or airdams) then it should have an Opel badge somewhere on the reverse of the spoiler. Either way the style is true to the 'A' series GT/E spoiler, my father owned a Black Magic back in the 70's......and personally I would say that every 'A' series should have one.....it just makes the front end look right!
