someone got a great gt at a bargain price....

Really sold this time?

So, The purple GT went on Ebay again... I found out last minute and unsuccessful in getting the car... I had no idea the original sale fell thru or I would have moved on it earlier. From the first time I saw Wayne's GT at Carlisle I loved it.
I hope whomever was successful is from this group and that we get to see it at the various Opel meets. Perhaps the new owner will tire of Purple and I'll get another shot at it.

The GA newbie Dan (Drinkman) got it, so Wayne's GT is coming to Jawja (Georgia to ya'll non-Southern folks) and it will be at shows here in and around the South. As for it being here for the Nationals....we'll see

We Bought It!!!

Yes, I will be getting it. I mailed the check. We are rearranging the garage to allow it to sit next to the Lotus. It will be a colorful, fun garage. Baring unforeseen circumstances, it will be well loved and taken care of. We have a list and budget for care and minor upgrades. No, we do not plan on repainting it. Purple it shall remain. We like the color a lot. (We are taking suggestions for wheels.... sorry Wayne, the wheels will not remain in current state for more than a few months)

Its first public appearance will be at Caffeine and Octane on October 7. Come on out, one and all. Bring your Opels!

Caffeine and Octane Atlanta's Best Car Show

We are trying to find a way to at least stop by Nationals in Blairsville but it is not looking good thus far. We may be able to stop by for a token visit to meet folks but not participate in too much.

This car is very special to us. Not only is it for my wife's Birthday, but also our 30th wedding anniversary. My bride took out for good luck during the bidding one of our wedding pictures that showed my 1974 Opel Manta all decorated up and our getting in it driving away from the wedding.

This car will be used for just fun local driving by my wife during the week and we will take it up to the mountains every now and then to enjoy the scenery and the curvy roads (not too fast, that is why we have a Lotus). It will go to as many local car shows that we can make.

So, post your favorite ideas for wheels (nothing over 15", please) since we have to figure out what will not only look good but fit without rubbing. I have to admit, I used to like the rallye wheels on my Manta with the 4 spokes against a black background. That will be somewhat of an inspiration only modern and tasteful (as tasteful as you get with a bright purple car).

Panasport style wheels always look good on GT's in my opinion.

Congrats, not only on the car but also having a wife that digs Opels!

What Rally Bob said. Panasport style would look great. Period correct and still cool. Here are two modern examples of Panasports. They have bolt patterns and offset that work. Not sure if your new car has the different bolt pattern, big brakes etc....

Konig Rewind, or Rota RB both are around $450-$600 shipped off of ebay. I like the gunmetal or silver. Here are some examples. 4x100 already so no need for $100 spacers or headaches trying to find wheels that fit.

Excellent beautiful example of Opel GT with Rota RB

Gunmetal 4x100 for only $460 shipped

Rota RB on ebay

I like the wheels on your new car, let me know how much if theyre still in good shape...

How comfortable are you with the Offset on the Rota? +25? I thought staying below 20 was important on the GT?

As far as the existing wheels, shipping to Green Bay may be very pricy.

PURPLE is a range of hues of color occurring between red and blue. In additive light combinations it occurs by mixing the primary colors red and blue in varying proportions. It is a secondary color because two colors (blue and red) make up this color. In subtractive pigments it can be equal to the primary color magenta or be formed by mixing magenta with the colors red or blue, or by mixing just the latter two, in which case a color of low saturation will result. Low saturation will also be caused by adding a certain quantity of the third primary color (green for light or yellow for pigment).

It also happens to be the color of a certain: 73 Opel GT, soon to take its place in our garage! :yup:

Offset is directly related to wheel width, so it will vary.

I personally like the fitment of a 7" wide wheel with a 4" backspace. That works out to zero offset with most wheel brands (7" rims are typically 8" wide edge to edge).

The links I attached are just examples, if you go to Rota website you can see what they offer, if need be an adapter brings the offset down.

If the price is right, im not worried about shipping. No hurry either. I just shipped 4 manta wheels and tires to a suburb of Boston for $100 shipping with fed ex. Granted they were 13's

Voxx Wheels

These are 16 inch as I needed them so the side pipes don't drag on speed bumps. These are Bridgestone 60K tires from Discount tire and the wheeel and tire set ran about $1,000 total with all the trimmings and chrome valve stems.

BTW - I like the purple and the modifications and yes, it was well worth the price. I did mine in under 2 years and it is a LOT of work. Right now I am debating engine and transmission choices sine it is without an engine now and later new paint.

Here's a picture of my wheels and a link to my GT on the web.

Good luck with this near new GT
Norbert:yup:

Not into the BBS but that is one heck of great looking GT cabrio! I didn't know there were so many purple GT's in the world. I expected some dark plum ones but not this purple.

Rear view is great too.

Here are the wheels I have on my car, they are 15x8's. They are the correct offset and bolt pattern, requiring no spacers at all. Even though they are wider and taller, the tire I used with this wheel gives me the same height as the stock wheels and tire combo (off by less than a 1/10 of an inch).
