the 3.0 merc has been done. alot of threads on here about it

 

The 3.0 has no where near the tq and hp of the 3.7.
The 3.7 is an entirely different beast, and it is a beast!!

I had a 19.5 foot ski boat for around 11 or 12 years that had an engine very similary to the one pictured above. Seems like it was a 3.4 liter and I sold it around 13 years ago. The boat was one of the best investments that I ever made due to the fact that I paid around 2500.00 for the boat, which included everything that you would need for a ski boat, everything, and sold it for 2500.00 12 years later with no major investment for repairs, etc - used it on a heated lake in NC, I kid you not - the lake was used and owned by Duke power and they used the water in their cooling towers - I recall going to the lake in November and the water near the discharge area was like bath water - it the summer time many times the water was really too warm and was not refreshing, but still very nice. That water was very clear and had a nice blue color. Belews Lake was around a 20 minute ride from my house. Taught my daughters how to ski and everytime we went out it felt like we were on vacation if even for just an afternoon. I really miss that boat and skiing and just being on the lake. Ah, the good old days. Thanks for listening as I relive my youth, or middle age as the case may be...............

 

Waiting on hearing back from one of my dads friends who is installing one in a street rod on some measurements.. I know it's pretty big height wise as the deck height is 10.33" where as the 1.9 is 8.19 or so.. but the opel's cylinder head an valve cover are pretty tall...
I'm just chasing a squirrel right now as this just keeps popping into my mind as a swap idea. But it would be cool if it could fit under the hood..

A Boss head on the green block ?

 

I'm not 100% certain, but I think it's a edelbrock head for a 460 ford..

 

Must have been a 3.7 as I recall it did have the water exchange that I drained every fall. I The power steering looks familiar as well.

 

Hi David, I have a Mercruiser 488 and a Mercruiser 3.0.. 488 measures: from the (massive) harmonic balancer to the face of the flywheel 29", 24-1/2" tall at back, 22" tall at front, oil pan has a low section at the rear. It is about 21" wide, with the oil filter (included in the 21") extending out about 7" on the intake side. Old school Chevy bell housing will bolt to the back of the engine. My flywheel is not drilled for a pressure plate. The 3.0 is about 26" long, 24" tall and 14" wide except where the bell housing bolts. Also old school Chevy. This flywheel is drilled for a pressure plate. Enjoy your project. Rich
