I mentioned in another thread that SplendidParts had cancelled a rather large order, explaining that "for insurance reasons" they can no longer ship to the USA. From what I can gather, the insurance reasons pertain to SplendidParts' insurance carrier's reluctance to provide coverage for any products liability in the U.S.
Subsequent to the cancellation notice, I sent in a proposal in which I indicated my willingness to sign a waiver of liability that would absolve SplendidParts and its insurer of any responsibility for any failure of any part that I might purchase from the firm. I even offered to cover the legal costs of drawing up such a waiver. After more than a week, and having received no response, I sent in another proposal late last week. As of this morning (Wednesday, March 23), I have still received nothing, not even an acknowledgement that my two emails had been received. I can only conclude that there is no interest on the part of SplendidParts to pursue this. This is very unfortunate.
Gil Wesson at Opel GT Source is, by far, the go-to vendor on this side of the pond, and I have found his availability and his ready advice invaluable. However, there are times when I have found SplendidParts product line to be a bit wider and, in some cases, superior. For example, I purchased the door sill plates from SplendidParts partly because they came pre-drilled to factory specifications and fit perfectly without having to drill new holes in the rocker panel. Losing SplendidParts as a vendor is definitely not a positive for us.
From what I can see, the prohibition may not affect Canadians. When setting up a SplendidParts account and providing the shipping address, there is a drop-down menu for "Country". While the United States is not included as one of the choices, Canada is. It might be useful for one of our Canadian members to lob in an order and let us know what the response is.
If I do hear anything from SplendidParts, I will come back here immediately.
