As my windshield developed crack, I ordered new windshield from ProSource Glass. I was nervous as there were stories about long delivery and poor fit.

Well, very nice, tinted windshield arrived in one week and local Speedy Glass shop installed it today easily as the fit was perfect.

Price for the windshield was $390, plus $25 for crating and $160 for shipping to Port Huron, MI.

Hagerty insurance confirmed that they will cover the cost. I am one happy Opeler again.

Ouch!

$600.00 Dollars for a windshield?

Then I have to pay to get it installed?

Just Kidding.

I can install my own, just need some weed eater line. I've never paid to have a Gt windshield installed. But I have bought a few spray cans of Sillycone.

That is Great News.

Seriously, it is awesome news to know this problem is resolved.

Screw the price when it is "UnObtanium."

I can do without a lot of things on my GT, but a windshield?

Now that would be difficult.

This is why it pays to have good insurance. Last year my wife's Ford Fiesta windshield had to be replaced. The cost including installation was slightly over $1000! The GT windshield price looks cheap comparing to that.

I would normally install the windshield myself but Hagerty required it to be done in the authorized shop. Actually, the shop charged $45 only, including tax. Even if Hagerty allowed me to do my own installation, I would take it to the shop. For $45 it is more than worth and they take all the risk.

Not sure who manufactured the windshield.
There should be a manufacture etch in one of the corners. Usually a lower corner.

Good news P.J. Who actually manufactured the windshield?
If you are thinking of bypassing ProSource to get further up in the chain and save a few bucks, forget it.
The manufacturer is likely bound by a contract.

Hi, just throught I would chime in as it all makes sense. I will say that Pilkington's products are superior to most of the stuff coming out of the different factories today. The plant that makes these in England does primarily short production work but they are part of the OEM Group so standards are pretty high. I can only think of a couple other windshields where there have been issues with fit in recent years. They run hundreds of part#'s and we are talking tens of thousands of glass parts per year.
I will assume if anyone wants to order they will contact me toll free or email direct at richardt@prosourceglassintl.com

Quote from Richard's email:

They have improved the windshield tooling recently so fit is better than the older ones a few years back.

The price has not changed much over the years but the freight has gotten more costly.
You have the option of credit card which I can take during the week or PayPal any time.

Delivery time is approx. 7-10 days.

Regards,
Richard

Valuable information for any GT owner to know. One of my biggest concerns was always replacing my original 45 year old windshield!

Pilkington GT windshields

I can confirm that the manufacturing defect has been corrected from Pilkington. I ordered two windshields direct from them last year (can't remember exactly when) and they arrived within a week. manufacturing date of 12/15. I have installed one in my GT with the OLD but perfectly serviceable gasket and it dropped right in and fit absolutely perfectly. Probably took 15 min and I didn't even need rope! Just didn't have any in the shop at the time and didn't feel like driving home to get some and just wanted to give it a whirl. Dropped right in, almost too easy. I do have pics but might be a while till I figure out how to attach them. I did however just call Pilkington and they have sold out of the latest run and are waiting for another run so lets hope the new batch is as good as the last.
