Finished off the first of the GT valve covers.

There’s a surprising amount of hand work remaining even after powdercoating. But now the sequence is figured out for the remaining three.

This one was sold before I even finished it.

The letters on the valve covers were such a bad casting that it's incredibly difficult to get them perfect.

You did thinks in a different order than I did. I had taped off the areas I didn't want powder coated before spraying them.
I think I like your results better.

The powdercoater sprayed the powder first over 100% of the valve cover. Then he wipes off the fins and lettering. After I get it back, I mask off the surrounding areas and sand the high spots.

I welded the couple of places I broke through on my test-stand intake. Followed up by grinding it back down.

Then I sanded the exterior surfaces down to 150 grit in preparation for future powdercoating.

The last step will be for me to fabricate the plenum floor and weld it in place.

The test-stand intake is essentially done now. Today I fabricated a bottom plenum from .080’ aluminum and welded it in place.

There is some occlusion inside the intake due to weld penetration, so once it cools off I will grind that down. After that, it’s ready for powdercoat. It’ll get done red to match my tubular high-port test stand intake. Red tells me to not stick it on a car or sell it, it has a purpose!

Red means, ‘Don’t sell it by mistake dumb-azz!’

I apologize for this interruption.

I was working at Chrysler R&D on the “Magnum” truck engines. The first big batch of cylinder heads were machined incorrectly. As these were corrected they gave them a shot of green spray paint and all I heard was “green heads”… All. The. TIME. That was always the first question; does it have green heads? Actually it worked well because you could tell the ones that were correct at a glance whether on a dyno or in a vehicle.

About three months after that we received a huge batch of cams that also needed some additional machining to be correct. So I’m sitting in a meeting next to my buddy that also has a Monty Python sense of humor; oh and all the important bosses are there. It is a rather tense discussion about how long it’ll take to fix these and how do we tell them once they are corrected. I whispered to my buddy; “obviously paint them green so we’ll have green heads and cams”. We just could not stop laughing - it still puts a smile on my face.

So yes some color coding helps a lot.

Man, been so busy I kept forgetting about the valve covers.

Red one is done and sold.

Yellow one is also done, (and available).

Red and yellow….it’s like you made them specifically to lure Gordo’s money from his wallet! If only there were some chrome accents to put it over the top!
I didn’t mention I’m starting a new fast food chain…McRallyBob’s.

Gold one is done!

Unfortunately I didn’t notice until I was almost done with this one, but the powdercoater missed a small spot between the fins. Very unlike them, but it would cost me a ton of time and travel to have them warranty it.

If anyone is interested I’ll knock $25 off the gold one.

No Orange/Black/Silver? How much were you asking again for the gold one?
I had a satin black textured one that sold before I even got it back to my shop from powdercoating. Charles Goin claimed that one.

I was going to do one in Anthracite but I ran out of the energy to prep another one!
